The journey of informal Caregivers
Abstract
Taking care of a family member with Alzheimer’s disease is an hard and long journey. In this presentation , we will see that situations are heterogeneous. There are moments of breaks, steps to take, discontinuities and unfortunately an end to this journey . Here, we will see that depending on the situation ( children or spouses, the caregiver's gender), the individual's enrollment in a system of help within the community, and the family support: the help and its intensity, can be very different. We will also see that this caregiving situation is above all a situation of interdependence between different actors: Professionals, the family and the person with dementia. this presentation summarizes the conclusion of my thesis about the career of family caregivers in the home care’s situation of a sick elderly person. In this paper, I will discuss the situation of the caregiver in France. I will also talk about the work already done about this subject. I will present my results of my research, the various stages of the career of caregiver, the points of rupture, the beginning of the career and also its end. I will explain the heterogeneity of the profiles of caregivers. For Roger Dadoun ( Dadoun, 2005), “Aging is a fight”. We will see in the article that is fight is not only for the eldery people but for the family around them.
